In fact, the global pipeline for floating offshore wind energy reached 4,888 MW in 2018—and now comprises 38 announced projects, including 46 MW of operating projects. The floating offshore wind energy industry is well into a second-generation, multiturbine, precommercial pilot phase. And, while semisubmersible substructures dominate the market for floating support structures, new hybrid platform technologies are being introduced that could compete in future projects.
