Free Portal Exercises Available for Educators

Middle, high school and university level teachers can download a free set of interactive classroom exercises focused on the Portal at Green Fire Productions’ new Exploring Ocean Frontiers Educator Resources web page. The Portal exercises are among a suite of secondary and post-secondary educator resources that accompany the group’s four-part Ocean Frontiers film series, which chronicled the rise of the ocean planning movement in the U.S.

The materials build on real-world science and delve into ocean planning and stewardship, collaborative science, marine biodiversity, ocean data portals and stakeholder engagement. The lessons feature film clips, research data, local knowledge, place-based stories, role-playing and more — providing educators Next Generation Science Standards-linked tools to incorporate ocean management and conservation perspectives into a variety of classroom settings.

Green Fire worked with educators to develop this tremendous set of resources, providing tools that teachers and professors can use to convey the important messages of collaboration, conservation and stewardship to our next generation of ocean leaders. Members of the Mid-Atlantic Portal Team provided input on the development of the materials related to ocean data portals. To browse and download these resources, visit the Ocean Frontiers website.
